Motivational Speaker Truthfulness

Motivation Keynote Speakers Responsibility

Whenever a motivational speaker begins speaking, it is essential that their words are truthful. With success as a motivational speaker, comes the temptation to “stretch the reality” and thereby, the truthfulness of the words spoken. Audiences love grandiose claims and stories. In fact, it often seems that the more spectacular the claim made by the motivational speaker, the more they love it.

Unfortunately, this often leads the keynote motivational speaker to feel the need to create “bigger and better” claims with every passing speech delivered. However, truth is fragile.  What often begins as a little “innocent” embellishment, soon turns into a habit of habitual lying and misrepresentation.

Although the motivational speaker may attempt to justify this practice by asserting that the audience was, as a result of the exaggerated stories, more motivated than otherwise, the ends do not justify the means. Even though the audience may not be aware of it, their trust has been violated and once they do begin to perceive this violation, they will doubt everything that the motivational Keynote speaker has said.  It is not the audience’s responsibility to try and sift through the words of the motivational speaker in an attempt to separate the truth from lies.

Due to the flagrant lack of truthfulness within our culture, most people already have acquired sufficient skepticism to negatively influence their thinking. When the realization dawns upon them that the motivational speaker they recent heard has also breeched their trust, it further depreciates their confidence in their fellow man.  Such sowing of distrust and skepticism is not the calling of the professional motivational speaker, but rather, it is to encourage, motivate and raise the audience’s level of trust.
