Motivational Speaker Functions
Motivational Speakers Serve a Number of Functions
As a keynote motivational speaker, they can raise the level of enthusiasm of the audience. If they open the event, they are able to set the tempo of the conference. When closing a conference, they are able to encourage the audience and motivate them to put into practice the new information and resources they have acquired. Motivational speakers are frequently called upon to accomplish all of these goals and more.
The role of the motivational speaker is to engage the audience in a manner that is both intellectual as well as emotional. Although some motivational speakers do tend to neglect the content aspect in favor of a purely emotional appeal, the accomplished motivational speaker understands the importance of transferring valuable knowledge and thereby equipping the audience to achieve higher performance.
Any speaker who strives to impact only the emotion of the audience risks manipulating them. Purely emotional appeals made by those who know how to deeply influence an audience pose a very real danger of inappropriate emotional manipulation. For the professional motivational speaker, any such action is both inappropriate and unethical.
It is the responsibility of the motivational speaker to provide a “safe place” for the audience, a place where they can open themselves in an unguarded manner to what is being presented. In doing so the keynote motivational speaker earns a bond of trust with the audience and allows the audience to maximize their learning experience.
