Motivational Keynote Speaker
So you want to hire a motivational speaker?
When an organization makes the decision to hire a motivational speaker, they often have little understanding of what it is they really want, other than to bring in a keynote speaker who will motivate and inspire the troops. Doing so can prove to be highly effective or can result in the troops being further de-motivated. What determines the result?
The outcome that results is a combination of two conditions. The first is the state of the employees and the organization’s culture. If deep seated morale problems exist within the organization, hiring a motivation speaker to deliver a keynote motivational and inspirational speech in sixty minutes, will not solve the problems. After all, even the best keynote motivational speakers are not miracle workers.
The second consideration is that of the choice of the motivational keynote speaker. Professional speakers who can motivate run the gamut from pure entertainers to business experts who motivate by effectively sharing the important principles and information necessary for the audience to overcome the challenges and obstacles they face. Too often I have been contacted by a vice president of sales who wants his sales force motivated. Through the ensuing discussions, it becomes painfully obvious to me that by a series of strategic sales and marketing decisions and policies, the sales force has been placed into an impossible “no win” scenario. Rather than dealing with the root problems that are the basis for the declining sales force performance, the “simple, easy” answer is to bring in the professional motivator in the form of the keynote motivational speaker. Such a course of action is doomed to fail, regardless of the experience and caliber of the motivational speaker chosen.
The Role of Keynote Motivatonal Speakers
As I stated previously, motivational keynote speakers are not miracle workers. Presenting a highly motivational message to a group of people who are defeated and unhappy due to the policies and culture of the organization’s leadership, will not motivate, but rather further de-motivate them. Likewise, presenting a motivational speech to a sales force who have been placed into a “no-win” scenario by the policies of their management, will not suddenly and miraculously make them into super sales achievers. In fact, just the opposite is likely to occur. It is the equivalent of rubbing salt into one’s wounds.
Keynote motivational speakers are only human. They can only build upon the foundation which you have already laid within your organization. If the culture is the result of a foundation of mistrust, failure and despair, a culture which effectively prevents employees from succeeding, then a motivational keynote speech is not the solution, at least not until you have effectively begun to deal with those negative attributes. If the above description is reflective of your organization, then a motivational speaker may still be able to help you in a consulting role. Many motivational keynote speakers are also accomplished business consultants who are capable of helping you change your organization’s culture in a positive manner.
